Obama supporters are a unique combination of left-wing ideologues, life-time Democrats who are very passionate in their support for the incumbent President, and a core that is anti-Romney for various reasons: his religion, his stellar business success or as a Republican who they feel does not relate to the base of the Democratic Party. Many hope that America’s wealth will be redistributed with much of it going into their own pockets. I deeply respect the right of all Americans to cast their ballot for whichever man they believe will lead America out of its current crisis, but any voter who casts his ballot for Obama will have to disregard his disastrous record and his failed presidency. Despite the 7.8% unemployment rate reported earlier this month, which I find highly suspect, there remain 23 million Americans unemployed, which represents a true unemployment rate somewhere between 12-15%. Many of these are women who were the wage earners in their families. America’s current GDP growth of 1.9% is anemic. The number of Americans on food stamps has increased from 32 million to 47 million. Americans in poverty is now one in six. Since the incumbent President took office the average American median income has fallen by $4000 annually. There has been no real recovery in the American housing market. The above economic record reflects a leadership failure of great magnitude.
When Barack Obama became President the price of gas was about $1.84 per gallon. Today that price has doubled hitting American families and wage earners extremely hard. America could become energy independent but that is a concept which Mr. Obama opposes. Instead he wants to reduce the use of coal and fossil fuels and replace them with green energy. Such a position is totally unrealistic if for no other reason that even under the best conditions green energy cannot supply America’s energy needs for decades to come. Despite that reality this President has cancelled the Keystone pipeline and drastically cut drilling permits on Federal lands and off shore. Mr. Obama’s energy agenda if continued into a second term will be an unmitigated disaster for the American people.
Campaigning in 2008 Mr. Obama promised that he would reduce the debt and balance the budget. A greater con job on the American people would be hard to find. Can we trust a man who told David Letterman that he couldn’t remember what the national debt was? That debt will reach $16.2 trillion by year’s end which is $6.2 trillion higher than when he assumed office. The Federal Government has operated for the past three years without Congress passing a budget. Mr. Obama has failed to build bipartisan support to bring our debt under control. He has never addressed the overriding issue of the inevitable insolvency of Social Security.
In the field of health care he is perpetrating another great disaster. Health care premiums for families in America which he vowed to reduce by $2500 have actually gone up by $2500 per family. He plans to transfer $716 billion from Medicare to Obamacare over the next decade and is adding up to 16,000 new IRS agents to enforce its tax penalty provision. Thousands more Federal bureaucrats will be hired to enforce its 13,000 plus pages of regulations. He will never admit that he has placed Americans on the path of rationed health care. The number of exemptions which he has granted to this disjointed program should be a signal to all voters that there is something rotten in Washington.
While jobs, debt and health care are the dominant issues in the lives of most Americans, in the field of foreign policy and national security his failures are correspondingly frightening. Particularly in the Middle East has his policy badly unraveled. The Arab Spring has brought a radical government into power in Egypt and the Syrian regime has slaughtered 30,000 of its citizens. “Leading from behind,” a concept foreign to most Americans, has certainly been a failure. Iran is closer to having a nuclear weapon despite Mr. Biden’s dismissal of that threat in the Vice Presidential debate. Our long time ally and friend Israel faces a threat seldom seen in its history. The world is becoming a much more dangerous place than it was four years ago. Chinese military power is on the ascendancy. The Putin Government in Russia despises the United States and supports the Iranian and Syrian regimes. Yet Mr. Obama has promised Mr. Putin that he will be more flexible if reelected. Terrorism is not dead as Mr. Obama would like us to believe. In this scenario he wants to drastically cut America’s defense forces.
Of course the greatest failure in Obama’s foreign policy is the Libyan debacle which he has dumped on the American people. Four Americans are dead including the Ambassador who was denied adequate security by the Obama administration which called the attack a civil riot against an insignificant video. The American people have demanded an explanation and in lieu thereof we have had one of the greatest cover-ups ever perpetrated by a U.S. President. Mr. Obama, Mr. Biden, Secretary Clinton, Jay Carney and Susan Rice have all presented explanations that were both false and implausible.
No description of Obama’s tenure would be complete without noting the scandals that have engulfed his administration. Fast and Furious, Secret Service, GSA and Solyndra are a great discredit to this President. The American people must ask themselves if they want four more years of a President who is in way over his head, a Vice President who has difficulty coordinating his brain and his mouth, a State Department headed by a Secretary who failed us in Libya, a Treasury Secretary and an Attorney General who have failed in administering their departments effectively
It is obvious that most Americans have rejected the Obama campaign to blacken Mr. Romney’s record and his personal integrity including the despicable and false accusations of Harry Reid about Romney’s taxes and his Mormonism. Incredibly, Obama backers have accepted the President’s explanation that his failures are someone else’s fault. The American voter faces a choice between a man who has failed and who is incompetent, and his challenger who is very well qualified to become America’s next President. The choice has not been clearer in an American election in some 80 years. The voters will have the opportunity on November 6 to determine in large measure their own fate. Hopefully the Romney voters will outnumber the Obama supporters and give Mitt Romney the opportunity to return American to its former greatness.
