Mitt Romney is on the threshold of writing a new chapter in American history. John F. Kennedy was America’s first Catholic President; Barack Obama, the first Afro-America President. Several polls point to the probability that Romney will become the first Mormon President. Nothing of course is final until the people vote.
Romney is the complete package. In these past months he has conducted himself exceptionally well. It doesn’t hurt that he is ruggedly handsome with a great family. He has not apologized for his wealth and his success at Bain Capital or as Governor of Massachusetts. This remarkable man brings no scandals or personal baggage to the campaign. What started in the Republican Primaries as a somewhat stiff and detached imaged was stripped away by a campaign that refocused on the real Romney who is a caring and charitable man. The debates showed him to be highly intelligent, articulate and Presidential. Seldom has a Presidential candidate been so well focused on the problems facing this country. Obama’s failed record on the economy, jobs and foreign policy helped considerably. Romney has stayed on message and convinced most voters that he has both the skills and a plan to solve our economic problems and return America to greatness.
Romney’s performance in the debates and his choice of Paul Ryan as his running mate were brilliant. No commentary on this campaign will be complete without noting that Romney and the RNC have virtually matched Obama in raising money. The 2012 Presidential campaign will expend, give or take a few million, some $2 Billion, but money of course is the fuel of American politics.
In these last few days, the election will be won on the ground. I am not a Tea Party member. I do share their views on debt, budgets, several social issues and the growth of the Federal Government. If the Tea Party is serious about these positions and values, those dedicated Americans have a unique opportunity to put their time and money where their convictions are. In the key swing states, especially Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Nevada, Wisconsin and Iowa, they can make significant contributions getting out the vote and countering the efforts and money of the pro Obama labor unions.
If Romney is elected President of the United States, the challenges he will face are monumental. I predict this remarkable and uniquely qualified man will hit the ground running and begin fixing American problems the day after he is inaugurated. First I believe he will reach out to all Americans and take steps to heal the serious fissures caused by Obama’s efforts to create class warfare in our country. I predict that his cabinet will be a stellar and highly qualified one correcting the Obama failures at Treasury, Justice, State and Interior.
Mr. Romney will move quickly on tax reform and relief for middle class Americans and small business owners. He will move to change and reduce the role of unelected bureaucratic regulators who have under Obama gone far beyond their proper role. Mr. Romney will immediately engage the Republican and Democratic leaders of Congress as partners in solving our debt and budget crises. Hopefully Harry Reid will no longer control the Senate, but I believe Mitt Romney will also reach out to this angry old Mormon Democrat.
In the context of the economy, I predict that he will quickly open a dialogue with banking and business leaders, which will have the effect of breaking loose the billions of dollars waiting for the investment and economic environment to change. Romney will quickly restore confidence in these circles, the result of which will be an early improvement in job creation. He will start the process of making America energy independent.
Early meetings with top leaders at DoD and the intelligence community will take place to assure them that the Obama defense cuts will not be implemented, and that the world wide intelligence input to the President will be secure, and wisely used in policy and military decision making. Mr. Romney will give the men and women of our military services, the intelligence professionals and our diplomats their just due and respect.
I believe he will inform friend and foe alike that America’s exceptionalism and leadership are not defunct. The United States will once again lead from the front. No nation should expect any more apologies. He will give capable and vigorous cooperation to all nations in tackling global debt, terrorism and economic malaise. No more bowing, no more concessionary signals of “flexibility” and no more false claims to the American people and the world that al-Qaeda is defeated and no longer a threat. Radical terrorism will once again be a focus of the American government.
In summary Mitt Romney will bring to the Presidency a level of skill, competency and effective action that has not been seen by the American people for the past four years. I trust American voters to retire Mr. Obama on November 6, and hand Mitt Romney the reins of government.
