Why Obama Can’t Govern

The greatest duty given to any American President is to govern this nation openly, fairly, honestly and effectively. That charge granted by the Constitution and the sovereign people of the United States is sacred. Barack Obama has failed in that responsibility. The damage this man has done to our nation and the American people will endure for several years.

Mr. Obama came to the Presidency poorly prepared by any standard of measurement. His academic experience and political organizing skills were seriously deficient in preparing him to deal with the economic crisis and the national security threats facing the United States. His intellectual arrogance, left wing ideological rigidity, commitment to a large and controlling government, and a deep belief that his political utterances are cast in stone have become quicksand underlying his leadership failures.

Barack Obama promised change in 2008, but deceptively never explained what changes he had in mind, which of course was his first really successful foray into fooling most of the people all of the time. The liberal media unfortunately accepted that deception without a peep setting the stage for an Obama modus operandi that substituted political rhetoric for sound and workable public policies and programs. From his first inaugural until this day, Mr. Obama has often shunned responsibility for his actions and blamed others for what went wrong: It was all George Bush’s fault; Al Qaida is on the decline; Benghazi was caused by a senseless video made in Los Angeles; I did not draw a line in the sand; You can keep your health plan and your doctor, period! The insurance companies are to blame. My poor job approval is caused by racism.

This rhetoric as policy was compounded by a refusal to accept any meaningful compromise with Republicans on his disastrous health care law, the budget and the soaring national debt which has expanded from $9T to $17T since he took office.

Mr. Obama cannot govern effectively because of his practice of appointing incompetent and ineffective people to his cabinet and senior White House staff. From Obama America got a Treasury Secretary in Timothy Geitner who was in over his head, four years of mediocrity from Hillary Clinton at State, and corruption and lies from the untouchable Eric Holder as Attorney General.

Scandal remains standard practice in Mr. Obama’s Administration. The list is too long to record here, but four stand out: the IRS violation of the Constitutional rights of hundreds of conservative Americans and institutions, the Benghazi tragedy which is still unexplained by the President and his team after 20 months of lies, stonewalling and refusal to tell the American people the facts, the disaster that is Obamacare, and the unsecured Mexican border. In defending the failures of his administration, Barack Obama has successfully shredded the principle that the man at the top is ultimately responsible. No lying, incompetent or “what difference does it make” cabinet officer has ever been fired. Lying to Congress or the American people carries no personal consequences and the President’s favorite line under these circumstances is “I didn’t know.” His compliant Press Secretary Jay Carney long ago used up his quota of falsehoods defending his boss. Loyalty to the President is more important than failure or waste. Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is a case in point. Her department has wasted hundreds of millions of tax payer dollars in the bungled rollout of Obamacare. She still retains her position in the cabinet.

If the American people are mad and suspicious now about Obamacare, they had better take refuge in a bunker now that the 15,000 pages of Federal regulations are taking effect. Government bureaucrats will too often be standing between us and our doctors and health care providers.

The repeated failures foisted upon the American people by this President and his inept team are compounded by other grandiose failures in American society today. Most major American media institutions have glaringly failed to do their duty as watchdogs of the Government. From day one they have given Mr. Obama a free ride, seldom questioning his lies and corruption. Rather than criticize when it was deserved, they repeatedly gave him adulation and praise or ignored his failures. Reporters, editorial writers and boards too often became promoters of his agenda instead of protectors of the public weal. Unchallenged acceptance of phony explanations of the Benghazi tragedy and other scandals has been standard practice and the Republicans received most of the blame for the recent Government shutdown, although Mr. Obama was equally guilty. Fortunately Fox News and talk radio have been tenacious watchdogs covering the Obama debacle.

Hopefully, the tide of public opinion, which for a long time treated Barack Obama as a Rock Star, has begun to see him as the failure he is and a wrecker of so much of what has been good in American society. The true unemployment numbers are far above the “official rate;” our international posture is seriously tarnished; America’s role in the world has diminished because our Allies seriously question Obama’s leadership, and our adversaries no longer fear us. The Iran Nuclear Treaty allows Iran to continue its nuclear program without any real concessions. Mr. Obama’s policy of leading from behind was always a joke and has placed the United States in the position of weakness and distrust.

I believe it is time for those misguided Americans who idolize Mr. Obama, and believe he can do no wrong, to wake up and hold him accountable for his failures and lies. The rest of us have been doing so from the beginning. Our greatest hope for a reversal of the mess we are in is to turn the U.S. Senate over to the Republicans and let the failed President know through polls, phone calls, E-mails, blogs, votes and word of mouth that his dismal performance will no longer be tolerated.

Yes, Mr. Obama, real and effective change is long overdue. You are the one who has to change! Move to the center. Give up your health care debacle. Work harder to balance the budget, reduce the national debt and deal with the entitlement crisis. Conduct a foreign policy based on reality. Stop lying to the American people and restore the trust which you have lost. Try very hard to learn how to spell the words “compromise” and “cooperation,” and then start practicing these basic principles of successful governance.
